Healthy Weight Loss Secrets - How to Stick With Your Commitment

For most of us, achieving healthy weight loss is no mystery... it's sticking with it that most of us have trouble with. You know how it is, you get started on your plan and you're excited about it and super motivated, bulletproof to temptation. Then all of the sudden, you're back to making the exceptions and pretty soon you've lost your momentum. What happened... and better yet, what can you do to make sure that this stops happening? If this is a problem for you, then here's a few things you can do to make sure that you stick with your commitment...

Giving Up Isn't the Problem

In my coaching experience, I've found that giving up isn't usually the things which causes people to abandon their commitments, it's lowering their standards. People hit a rough spot and things get tough, so rather than pushing through, they lower their standards. The problem is that lowering your standards eats away at your self-esteem and creates a downward cycle which eventually lands you right back where you started.

The other problem is that people relax their standards simply because they're doing well. This is the "I've been good, I deserve to have a little treat (or a day off." However, if this exception wasn't a part of your regular plan, you've just broken a promise to yourself. Not in giving up on your original plan, but in compromising your standards. This is why it's crucial that you guard your standards and realize that lowering your standards will almost always lead to you giving up.

Okay, So How Do You Maintain High Standards?

The secret to maintaining high standards is having a strong standard for measuring your own value and one which is not based on exterior things which you cannot control. This value standard is known as your personal Value Qualifier (VQ) and it's the key to succeeding at anything in life. Those who have an untouchable sense of their own value have no problems maintaining high standards for themselves and no problems sticking with their commitments.

What's the standard which you've set for measuring your own value? Is it based on something which you only have limited control over? If so, you'll always have a hard time keeping to your commitments when things get tough. However, with an untouchable VQ, you become unstoppable in maintaining your standards, keeping your commitment and achieving healthy weight loss.
